چکیده

It is well documented that diabetic rats and subjects have a paradoxical resistance to ischemic conduction block although the nerves of diabetes are more susceptible to entrapment neuropathies. The aim of the present study was to further analyze the effect of anoxia on the diabetic nerve. Nerve conduction was measured in vitro in desheathed sciatic nerves from spontaneously diabetic rats (BB-Wistar) and age-matched controls. After onset of anoxia the compound action potential (CAP) decreased to 50% in 17 min in diabetic rat nerves and 8 min in normals. Following reoxygenation CAP recovered to 50% in 30 s in normal rat nerves and after 3 min the recovery was 92%. In nerves from diabetic animals 50% recovery took 4 min, but still after 12 min CAP was suppressed to a 60% level of the original. Longer periods of anoxia did not impair the recovery in normal nerve as it did in the diabetic ones. This defective recovery after anoxia in nerves from diabetic animals may be relevant for the understanding of the pathogenesis of entrapment neuropathies in diabetic subjects.

Does dietary fish oil improve nerve conduction velocity via regulating of blood glucose level in diabetic rat?

Although it is a well-established fact that dietary fish oil can improve nerve conduction velocity in diabetic rat, but the exact mechanism of its action is unknown. Therefore, in this study we measured the blood glucose level of all animals for evaluating the possible effect of fish oil in improvement of nerve conduction velocity in diabetic neuropathy via regulation of blood glucose level. Ischemic and reperfusion injury of rat peripheral nerve.

A rat model of severe nerve ischemia was used to study the effects of ischemia and reperfusion on nerve conduction, blood flow, and the integrity of the blood-nerve barrier. Conduction failure was consistently found in the sciatic-tibial nerve during 1- and 3-hr ischemic periods. Recovery of the compound muscle action potential was prompt and complete upon reperfusion following 1 hr of ischemia...

Structural-functional interactions in the therapeutic response of diabetic neuropathy.

Studies in experimental diabetic rat attribute the acute reversible nerve conduction defect as well as the early structural abnormalities of the node of Ranvier and myelinated axons to changes in nerve metabolism secondary to hyperglycaemia and activation of the pol yo1 pathway.’-8 The early readily reversible slowing of nerve conduction velocity in the diabetic rats correlates with a decrease ...

Restoration of conduction in the spinal roots correlates with clinical recovery from experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis.

In the Lewis rat, acute experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) induced by inoculation with myelin basic protein (MBP) and adjuvants is characterized by tail and hindlimb weakness that resolves spontaneously after several days. In rats with neurological signs of this form of EAE (MBP-EAE) we have previously demonstrated demyelination and nerve conduction block in the proximal peripheral...
